Flora's Transformation in Retrospect

Does Flora's believix feel not quite on par with all the other girl's design? Do you find that her boots do not quite fit with her top and skirt? As if they're completely two different styles that should not be together? Is it her top that makes everything seem out of place? You're not alone.

Of all the believixes, Flora's is the one that sticks out the most in my mind because it has a more natural, flowery look as if her top and skirt were made of rose petals and her collar and waist band were made of vines. Of all the other believixes, hers is the one that does not fit with the theme of the believix outfit: to be 'modern.'

Now, that there is where the problem lies. Flora is the fairy of flowers and flowers are often as something symbolically synomous with natural, traditional and ancient--the opposite of modern and fresh.

Take a leap back in time for a moment and go back to season one. Do you think that they might have gotten it right back in season one? Her believix feels like a downgraded enchantix outfit with a pair of gogo boots added to differentiate it from the enchantix-style barefoot sandals.

Sure, if they spruced it up with some more elaborate colour schemes and designs, it could have worked. It makes me kind of think that the believix outfit should have been in season one while the winx outfit should have been in season four.

I do not mean to say that her believix should look like her season one outfit but when you think about it, it fits the modern and fresh idea a little more. It gives her a more focus on the fact that she is a fairy general and less on the fact that she is a very 'flowery' kind of girl. Do not be mistaken, I realise that she is the fairy of flowers and that it is obvious that her outfit is going to be influenced by that but what did pink hearts and the colour pink in general have to do with anything with Bloom's fire- and dragon-themed powers? The heart is understandable but pink?

Point being is that you would really be able to tell what the all girls' powers were exactly at a glance? Did Layla's outfit have anything to do with water or morphix (aside the colour blue); Stella with the sun, moon (and by extension, stars); Musa and music (other than the fact that she looks like a chronologically transplanted rocker); even Roxy and animals?

Back in season one, you knew automatically that Musa's powers had to do with sound because she wore headphones; Tecna and her skin-tight jumpsuit was something technological and Stella and her Staff of Solaria for the celestial bodies.

To conclude, maybe the designers should have gone back to season to look for inspiration for Flora's outfits. Maybe they could have done something elegant with her corset, maybe even a long skirt to contrast with all short skirts and pants. Anyways, it's too late now since season four is over. There is always season five to look forward too.

What do you think?

Happy Birthday Tecna!

December 16 is Tecna's RAI birthday.

Edit: She's 20 years old if you account for the events of Secret of the Lost Kingdom (mainly those who have not seen the movie). If not, she's 19.

Double Poses

Is it me or is that getting a little annoying using the same poses for stock art? I think it's a little cheap that they're using the same ones from Enchantix.

Which ones do you prefer, the enchantix art or the believix art? Personally, I like the enchantix ones.

Season 4: English Flyer

Thanks to Layla n Amentia for the info! :D

New version of the season 4 flyer! Notice how different it is from the original flyer? Debuts "Fall 2009". Hmm, I guess the flyer's a little out of the loop.

Mystery Image

The image above was sent in by gamercatgirl before she started writing for the blog. Notice the little picture of the witches, Bloom. and Sky.

"It shows a picture (possibly a movie poster) of Sky and Bloom facing off against the Witches. I'm split on whether it's a cut scene from the first movie, something fun the creators decided to do, or a scene from the second movie." -gamercatgirl

Gasp! - It's Enchantix! It could be from the second movie, because in the end of the forth season, the girls are in their Enchantix forms again. Credits to dreamywinxgirl94 for posting it on MC.

Happy Birthday, Bloom!

I realise that this is a little late but Bloom's RAI birthday was on Thursday. I know that character birthdays don't really stick in our mind as something worth remembering all the time but I am going to attempt to ahead of them.

Channels signing on the Winx Club

Rainbow Seals String of Sales for Winx Club
By Kristin Brzoznowski
Published: December 7, 2009
LORETO: Rainbow S.p.A. has closed a new round of deals for the fourth season of its hit Winx Club series, bringing the total number of countries that will air the latest installment to 100.

Cartoon Network in Australia and Asia, Teletoon in France, Clan TVE of Spain, TVI and Panda Portugal, Alter in Greece are among the new deals secured by Rainbow. Further sales include TV2 in Denmark, MTV3 in Finland, TV2 in Norway, Kanal D in Turkey, SABC of South Africa, Zig Zap of Poland, RTL Club in Belgium and CTC of Russia. In the fourth season, the Winx Club fairies move from Magix to Earth, where they meet Roxy, the last remaining Earth Fairy, and defeat enemies who are trying to wipe out their clan.

Congradulations to all who have access to the above channels. We can only hope for an English version here in North America. Cross your fingers, Canadians and Americans! (British, too, I suppose?)

New English Opening (Danish Opening)

Apparently the Russian S4 opening is in English according to the video poster WinXComeOn (See note a bottom)

Perhaps this means we'll be seeing the Believix in English soon!

EDIT: It's Danish, not Russian.

Screenshots of New Sites

Notice that the top ad is still in English? And there isn't any ads at all in the Spanish version. There's still a little bit of work to be done.

New Translations of the Winx Website

4 new sites were added on December 3/4 -

German -
Russian -
Turkish -
Castilian Spanish -

So, with these done they'll probably begin work on the other sites, such as Hebrew, Portuguese, and Dutch. A question I have is whether languages like Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish will be given their own sites or they will have to go to the European Portuguese and Castilian Spanish sites? They had their own sites on the original homepage, but the extra work may overload the translators.

There's something for everyone on the online game, and now both the English and the Italian sites sell hats!

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Sigh. It looks like good things are coming to Rainbow studios as they are being awashed with new cartoon productions.

"Grünwald, Munich, 1st December 2009 - The Grünwald-based brand management and media company m4e AG gives the green light for the start of production of the TV series YOKO, MO & ME. The series emerges in co-production between the Italian production studio Rainbow S.p.A. (among others 'Winx Club', 'Huntik'), the Canadian animation studio March Entertainment (among others 'Dex Hamilton', 'Playmobil CGI Movies') and Lucky Punch, a joint venture between Professor Gerhard Hahn and m4e AG in Grünwald. Gerhard Hahn, founder and chief executive of Hahn Film AG in Berlin (among others 'Asterix in America', 'Bibi Blocksberg'), will be acting as executive producer. Negotiations with a German TV channel as a further co-producer will shortly be completed. More information on this will be made known soon.

This fantasy-adventure, whose production budget stands at around 12 million US dollars, will be elaborately produced at a number of locations in HD-quality and is a mixture of real film and CGI animation. The TV premiere of the first season with 26 episodes of 24 minutes each is planned for 2011. A second season with a further 26 episodes is already being planned."

Published earlier this year on April 18 was that a German company called m4e have signed a five-year production contract with Rainbow, meaning that m4e also has rights to Winx Club now.

"German media firm signs five-year co-production deal with Italian animation studio.

The relationship between Italian animation studio Rainbow S.p.A and German brand management and media company, m4e, has been extended - with the two firms signing a new five-year volume and co-production deal.

The agreement gives m4e the rights to the next season of Winx Club, as well as the new animated TV show [Pop?] Pixie which is based on the characters from Winx Club.

m4e will manage all rights including TV, home entertainment, merchandising, publishing and promotions. On top of this, the firm also has the first look rights to Rainbow's new shows over the next few years, with m4e guaranteeing to acquire at least one show per year on a pre-sale basis.

Meanwhile, m4e and Rainbow will also co-produce at least one show every two years, beginning with a new development scheduled for delivery at the start of 2010.

"For many years we are enjoying a very close and trustful relationship with Rainbow," said Hans Ulrich Stoef, CEO of m4e. "It is only a logical step for us to strengthen this relationship.""

Makes one wonder whether or not the movie and season five animation will change drastically because of this contract, no? And for better or for worst?

French Site Opens!

The French version of the Winx Club game site opened. HERE's the link for French enjoyment. I noticed they had a section for the Magazine. The English site doesn't have this, it has a Tutorial/FAQ there instead. Interesting. I'm guessing they're still working out some quirks, like with the English site when it opened. Bloom's text bubbles have all been translated and it seems like most, if not all, of the game is too.

English Season 4 Voice Actors

By English, I mean RAI English, not 4kids

Notice anything about the above picture? It has the English voice actors listed. (If you have trouble seeing it, I included the list below.) Of note, both Roxy and the four Wizards of the Black Circle are listed, as are all six of the Winx, as well as the Specialists. Also, the voice actor listed for Musa, Anik Matern, is not a new voice actor for anyone who has ever looked at the voice actors of Winx. In season 3, the voice of Musa for the previous two seasons, Sarah McCullough, left after the third episode of S3 and was replaced by Matern. However, McCullough's name was never removed from the credits and Matern's name was never added. That's the cue for everyone to look at the S4 credits and see Matern's name listed. Bloom's voice actor has also changed from Helena Evangeliou to Angela Gallupo.

As for the Specialists, I had to get their voice actors from Wikipedia, which as we all know can be pretty unreliable. Helia's and Nabu's sections did not include their voice actors. Using their voice acting list, only Brandon, Sky, and possible Timmy had a change in voice actors. Timmy's was listed as Michael Tarmush while the credits say he is voiced by what appears to be Michael Yarmusr (the R could possible be an H, it's hard to tell) This may be a typo or it may mean that Timmy got a new voice actor that had the same first name as his previous actor.

With these changes, could it be that the English version is already in production, possibly even completed?

Cast List -
  • Bloom - Angela Galluppo
  • Stella - Jennifer Seguin
  • Musa - Anir Matern
  • Flora - Holly Gauther-Frankel*
  • Layla - Lucinda Davis
  • Tecna -Jodie Resther
  • Roxy - Sarah Camacho^
  • Brandon - Mark Hauser
  • Sky - Daniel Brochu
  • Riven -Mitchell Rothpan
  • Timmy - Michael Yarmusr
  • Helia -Martin Watier
  • Nabu - Todd Fennell
  • Anagan - Thor Bishopric
  • Duman - Simon Peacock
  • Gantlos - Mark Camacho^
  • Ogron - Terrence Scammel
*That is how to properly hyphenate her name. I suspect she kept both her maiden name and her husband's last name, as that is how names usually become hyphenate.

^Are they brother and sister? I honestly don't know.

UPDATE: I looked into this and could not find anything on Sarah Camacho. However, there is a Mark Camacho. According to various sources, he's single, so Sarah is definitely not his wife.

If you have any corrections or additions, feel welcome to share it with us below in the comments.

The screencap above is from the season 4 ending posted by Bloomgirl22. It's the German version of "Superheroes / Magia di Winx" Quite pretty.

New Rumors & Roxy Pics!

Thanks to Witch Darcy Hypno  for the pics!

Even though Roxy's probably out of the spotlight, new pics of her are still being discovered on the net! Is there still hope for her?

I've also heard a rumor that she'll be the leader of the Winx Club next season! Could it be true?

Rainbow has other productions in store

According, Rainbow studios another project planned besides the Winx Club, PopPixie, Huntik, etc.

"Aside from PopPixie, Rainbow has another new project in the pipeline that isn’t yet in production. With Silvia Brena (former director of Cosmopolitan Italy) attached, Maya Fox is aimed at teenagers and is based on a successful brand that already consists of a novel, a website, a blog and various magazines. “It’s dark and gothic,” says Hryniewicz. “It’s set in London and follows a fashion-conscious teen blogger who has psychic powers and is being pursued by a serial killer.”"

Ohh...this sounds interesting for those who are a little more the freaky thriller stuff.

As for the books, they're only available in Italian. As for the art style, I think it's just pure coincidence that the Winx Club is similar considering that they're both from Europe. Look at manga and anime. :)

(For those who really don't understand, people who read both manga and European comics/BDs will know what I'm talking about. BDs have a distinct style that emulate manga sometimes--like in WITCH--but are quite different from real manga. Such as colouring and lineart techniques as well as attention to proportion of bodies per panel. BDs are much looser in their art and are often fully coloured, hard-covered and printed on 10x12 inch paper--and expensive.)

Nabu Oops!

This is a screen shot I took from the final episode of season 4. The first thing you notice is how adorable Roxy and Artu look dancing, unless you're looking at the background, in which case you'll see something very wrong! On Roxy's right, as alive as I am, is Nabu. Did the animators somehow forget? Or are they trying to tell us something?

Back to Enchantix?

I guess Believix really was only to be used to convince  people of Earth to believe in magic, because as they fly back to Magix, all the girls are back in their Enchantix forms! But, wait, what about Roxy? She doesn't have Enchantix!

Roxy was excluded from this scene, although she was seen flying with them (all in their Believix) seconds before. So, is she not coming back to Magix and joining Alfea? What a cliffhanger to leave us with on the last episode!

Norwegian and Turkish Believix

And tomorrow, the Dutch Believix airs.

Morgana and Klaus

Aww, season 4 ended on a good note for Roxy and her family! And also for fans who have been wondering about the mysteries of the Morgana/Klaus marriage. I mean, seriously, how could a fairy ages old  have a daughter with a normal, mortal man? It has everyone puzzled.
According to my interpretation of a little story they showed in the last episode, Morgana was tired of being queen, so she attempted to pass for a mortal. That's when she met Klaus. They fell in love, got married, and had a cute little baby Roxy. I think she then says she was discovered by the Black Circle, and captured to be locked away with all of Earth's fairies.

But now she's back to live with Roxy, Klaus and Artu! And don't worry about Earth not having a fairy queen, Nebula has been given Morgana's crown!

Season four has officially ended today

Season four has officially ended today.

I am in total shock right now about it, as most people probably are, and I'm still trying to swallow the fact that Nabu died. I will probably comment on the events of the season later on. Stay tune as this blog will keep running as we wait for the release of the second movie next year and for season five.
Below is something to commerate and forever immortalise Layla and Nabu's relationship.

- Kiku

Turkish Opening W/ English Translation

Winx, again
Winx , all the fairies
shoulder to shoulder,
we are walking on the path of magic
Winx, with you
our dreams will come true
we are this power and that's believix
everyday, a new game
everyday, a new fairytale
while walking freely, hold my hand
and don't forget
you are strong and that's believix
Winx, again
Winx , all the fairies
shoulder to shoulder,
we are walking on the path of magic
Winx, with you
our dreams will come true
we are this power and that's believix
winx, hold my hand
winx, you are my friend
together we are discovering the magic of love
while flying in the sky
our dreams will come true in this world
it's our magical world, WINX

Roxy's Mother is Morgana

Yep, that's right. As of episode twenty-five, Morgana finally revealed the truth: she is Roxy's mother. The logistics of it don't even remotely make sense but this is a cartoon after all and anything can happen. It was kind of predictable from the beginning. Phoebe even made speculations that the woman that Roxy saw after she put on the White Circle in episode thirteen (at the time, we thought Morgana's name was Nebula) and it turns out that she was right.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed by this revelation because then, how was Roxy born on Earth if her mother was stuck inside the White Ring for several centuries? When exactly did the Earth fairies seal themselves inside the White Circle? Is Klaus Roxy's biological father? And why did Roxy start crying after she found out who her mother was? Granted, I would cry too why so all of a sudden? Could Rainbow have at least made some allusions that Roxy desired to find her mother in her personality?

Either way, next episode: SEASON FINALE!!! END OF SEASON FOUR!!!

(Now, I can't wait for the MOVIE and SEASON FIVE!)

Season 4 Sketches?

I have to ask but who was this supposed to be? Bloom? Bloom's sophiex? Nebula? Hmmm...

4kids Season 4!?

I just spotted this on Wikipedia... Could these be the real release date for season 4? (August 15, 2010) Or did someone just make this up? (It is Wikipedia , after all.)

I'll try keep you guys updated on this!

Winx Club: The Magic is Back (working title)

Considering what has happened today, I'm wary of actually posting this movie news tidbit because this is only going to get you even madder or sadder depending on how you took Nabu's death in episode twenty-four. Either way, there is more news about the second Winx Club movie from I'll let you read it for yourself:

Rainbow Extends Winx Club Film Franchise
By Kristin Brzoznowski
Published: November 9, 2009
LORETO: Rainbow S.p.A. has unveiled a new Winx Club feature film in 3-D: The Magic is Back (working title).

The feature film, which follows on the success of The Secret of the Lost Kingdom, is the first movie ever in Italy be produced using 3-D stereoscopic technology. The film will be launched in Italy for back-to-school 2010, with a staggered release to follow throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

The Magic is Back follows Bloom, who has been living happily with her parents in Domino as princess of the realm. Her boyfriend Sky has also just asked for her hand in marriage. Everything is going well, but then Sky's father forbids him from marrying Bloom, revealing a dark secret. With the help of the Winx Club, together with the Specialists, Bloom manages to overcome all adversity, rescuing the Magic Kingdom in the process.

"Sky's father forbids him from marrying Bloom, revealing a dark secret." Whoa, whoa, whoa--STOP! Come again?!

I am in total shock right. First, Nabu's death and then Sky's father forbidding him from marrying her. Today is nobody's day--except for maybe a small part of me because I ship DiasproxSky part-time. I wonder what this dark secret is. I swear, if it's something like this, I am going to take a break from Winx Club and think about life for a moment.

Episode 24: RIP Nabu

*Major Spoilers!* If you haven't seen episode 24, I recommend that you watch it now on the Episodes Page before reading this :)

Even though most of the forth season has been running a little slow plot-wise, these last two episodes (episodes 23 and 24) were no disappointment if you were looking for action and epic battles! Bloom vs Nebula will definitely go down in WInx history as one of the greatest battles ever, closly followed by the more recent Specialists vs the Duman Demon.

Nabu defeated Duman's demon form in his last bout of glory. I suppose the writers gave this to him because he died later in the episode. I didn't believe it at first, but after awhile a feeling of permanence settled over it. As most of us probably suspected (I know I did) the Wizards had never turned into "good guys". Turns out they knew the Winx were really gullible and fooled them, costing Nabu his life.

But why would they do this? Is it permanent? He had a chance, with that one gift, but the Wizards made a point of wasting it on a wilted flower.

Well, whether our Nabu's dead or not, the events of the last episode caused Layla to leave the Winx and go with the Earth fairies to get her revenge...

It's About Time! -Er, I Mean, CONGRATS, GUYS!

Yep, another proposal! Who's getting hitched this time? Stella and Brandon! There weren't any actually words said, he just popped open a ring box and she winked at the screen! I guess we'll find out next episode whether or not that counts as a proposal!

You know, I actually that these guys would make it official sooner. But then there's the whole issue of Brandon not being a prince... I wonder how Radius will react?
